Dubai motorists can now refuel vehicles in Dubai without physical cash or cards through a prepaid system that uses a new technology known as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) at all the Emirates National Oil Company operated petrol stations. The service went live yesterday.

The prepaid system called VIP (Vehicle Identification Pass), similar to Salik, was introduced 2 years ago, but was accessible only to corporate clients. Motorists wishing to refuel vehicles in Dubai can register for the VIP across 112 Enoc fuel stations after finishing an application form. This will install a RFID tag at the vehicle’s fuel tank to pass system verification at the refueling time.

Registration of VIP and RFID tag(s) costs Dh250 and requires documents such as Emirates NIC for the local residents and passport copies for the visitors in addition to vehicle registration details as part of application approval process. Multiple vehicles can be registered on one account; however, the motorists are required to pay separately for getting a tag on every vehicle.

The service is available to all the registered vehicles in the UAE and the other GCC countries. The new system of vehicle refueling in Dubai will save about 3 minutes per customer if not more on the petrol pumps. Moreover, the system is also highly automated to send SMSs and emails on each transaction to the motorists. This will help the drivers to manage their online accounts while refilling the fuel tank of their vehicles.

Enoc also plans to release a VIP mobile application “EnocPay” which will use Beam Wallets for further enhancing the customer payment experience before the end of this year.
