The BMW chief Harald Krüger confirmed on Wednesday March 16th, 2016 that the new BMW i8 Spyder will make its debut in 2018.

The automaker first released the teaser images of the BMW i8 four years back, but that car was a convertible. Recently, the BMW i Vision Future Interaction concept was displayed at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas. However, the BMW i8 Spyder codenamed i15 is most probably going to resemble the concept unveiled in 2012. It would boast a sophisticated and modern design which will be both aerodynamically stable and attractive.

The powertrain is expected to come from the i8 coupe model, which carries a turbocharged 1.5-litre 3-cylinder engine mated with an electric motor to produce 362 horsepower combined. With this powertrain, the BMW i8 Spyder will be able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.

Unfortunately, the automaker didn’t provide the exact date of arrival for the BMW i8 Spyder, so we would have to wait a little more to get our hands on further information.
