From last 2 years, a rumour has been circling around that the German automaker is considering launching a new BMW i5 model which will be a family oriented and eco-friendly car. The name i5 was suggested as this model would rank between the BMW i3 and the i8.

Recently, the head of BMW i division, Henrik Wenders has confirmed some important details regarding the BMW i5 while talking to an online car blog.

Talking to Car and Driver, Henrik stated that the i5 will be equipped with a range-extending internal combustion engine, which makes it an electric car and not a hybrid. The company still did not decide on the body style of the car; would it be an SUV, sedan or a minivan, it is under consideration.

However, one thing is for sure that the new BMW i5 would be a household car and perfect for families.
