Nissan has announced that it will roll out its first ever semi-autonomous vehicle, the Nissan Qashqai crossover by 2017 featuring the new “Piloted Drive 1.0” technology.
This technology will allow the Qashqai to drive autonomously on a single lane of highways, in a full traffic road. Although initially, the ‘Piloted Drive 1.0 technology’ will be available only on the Nissan Qashqai, but Nissan promises that more cars would be launched with the same feature.
In the future, the company will launch more advanced autonomous vehicles boasting techs like ‘multiple lane control’ that will allow a car to switch lanes on the highway. By the end of the decade, Nissan also aims to introduce autonomous vehicles within urban areas.
The Nissan Qashqai will arrive in the Japanese markets later this year, while a demonstration would be arranged in Europe too.
