Rolls-Royce has announced that it will be ending production of seventh generation Phantom later this year. The good news is luxury sedan variant of the Phantom will find its way to the showrooms, but both two door variants (Coupe and Drophead Coupe) have reached the end of their production life.

The Phantom has the honour of being the first Rolls-Royce model developed by the luxury car manufacturer after ownership transferred to BMW. It debuted on Jan 1, 2003, followed by an extended-wheelbase model in 2005, Drophead in 2007 and Coupe in 2008. Customers who are looking for a two-door Rolls-Royce will now have to opt between the Wraith and Dawn, both of which are modeled on the Ghost sedan.

However, Rolls-Royce will be producing 50 “Zenith” special editions to mark the end of Phantom production. The company has not revealed most details about the Zenith models except that they will feature a tailgate hosting area, unique gauges, laser etched-armrests and a “Spirit of Ecstasy” hood ornament.

The company is working on an aluminium platform which will become the base of its entire lineup. A new SUV is also in the offing and is likely to be the first model to use the all-new aluminium platform.
