The new Aston Martin plant will be based in Wales and production will start before the end of this decade. The plant will be built in St. Athan, Glamorgan, and is currently occupied by the UK’s Ministry of Defense.

The British automaker had been hunting plant locations after announcing plans for a new SUV based on the 2015 DBX concept. Locations in China had also been considered before settling on Wales. The company hopes to maintain its “purely British” manufacturing which is highly valued by customers. All Aston Martin vehicles have been hand-crafted in Britain for 103 years and basing the new plant in Wales means the tradition continues. The company chose from over 20 locations around the globe and the choice of Wales was based on quality, cost and speed of production considerations.

The new Aston Martin plant is part of a £200 million investment by the company, which also includes an upgrade for its existing plant in Gaydon, England where the electric version of the Rapide sedan will go into production in 2018.
