UAE Police have allowed motorists to install ‘dashcams’ as an effort towards safe driving. Dashcams are cameras installed on a vehicle’s dashboard to record all vehicle activities such as excessive speeding and attempted fraud by pedestrians. They would be especially helpful in hit and run traffic accidents.
According to reports, the pedestrians jump knowingly in front of moving vehicles to frame motorists in order to seek compensation.
General Mohammad Saif Al-Zafeen, director of the Traffic Federal Council shared that the installation of dashcams will give solid evidence against the guilty party, automatically reducing the occurrence of such events.
Even though the idea of dashcam installation is currently in the planning phase, it is expected to be approved after further studies.
The concept of recording car-road activities is not new, as Dashcams are commonly used in countries such as Russia, China and even US to enforce traffic laws.
