Hyundai plans to boost crossover production in the current year given the growing global sales of utility models. The auto maker aims to make strategic changes to production plans in line with consumer demand.

The popular Santa Fe Sport model production has been extended to Hyundai’s Montgomery, AL, factory which will increase development by about 50,000 units per year. The production of the Tuscan, released in 2015, is also being extended by 50,000 units which will probably result in the compact crossover taking the crown from the Hyundai sales star, Elantra.

Hyundai plans to boost crossover production also include the launch of a new b-segment crossover to compete with the likes of Jeep Renegade, Fiat 500X, Honda HR-V and others. New models from the Genesis luxury brand will also be making an entry in the luxury subcompact, compact, midsize and fullsize crossovers, though it might take a few years before the full line-up is in place.
