A recently released video reveals that Ford is likely to launch a Diesel F150. The light duty pickup is one of Ford’s best selling models, and a diesel variant will stand it in competition with the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.
Ford currently offers four powertrains for the F150 and the latest generation has the highest EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings within gas-powered pickups. The current line-up includes 2.7 Litres Ecoboost, 3.5 Litre V6, 3.5 Litre EcoBoost, and 5.0 Litre V8. A Diesel F150 means that Ford is seriously gunning for the fuel-efficiency crown.
The Diesel F150 is likely to be powered by a 3.0 Litre diesel V6 from Jaguar coupled with a 10 speed automatic transmission developed jointly with General Motors. The V6 currently powers the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport and is capable of 254 hp and 443 pound feet of torque.
Ford will probably unveil the Diesel F150 by the end of this year as a 2017 model.
