The Volkswagen Golf is likely to get a facelift this year. The seventh generation popular VW compact hatchback was released in 2015 and the updated version will probably debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

In accordance with current trends in the auto industry, VW plans to shorten vehicle life cycles to five years from seven. The mid-cycle update therefore will be released three years following the vehicle’s debut. Currently in its seventh generation, the Volkswagen Golf has been one of the German automaker’s best selling models for the past four decades and given the shortened life cycle, an updated version can be expected to go on sale by 2018.

Expected updates to the Volkswagen Golf will include LED headlights and the high-end versions might benefit from the latest gesture control interface. Power upgrades may include the latest Golf R turbocharged 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine, dual-clutch transmission and All Wheel Drive.
