To counter the high number of unregistered cars and traffic violations, Dubai Police have installed about 57 cameras throughout the city. The cameras will send live feed of a vehicle to the police control room, making it difficult for the unregistered cars to move around the city. Termed as “Al Rasd”, the cameras will use 4G technology to send a HD picture of the running vehicles.

According to Col Al-Saadi, Director of Community Relations at Dubai Police, the traffic feed from the 57 cameras will help to identify if a particular vehicle is stolen, wanted by a bank or simply requires a registration renewal. The live feed will also assist the Dubai police in issuing on-spot fines to motorists for erratic driving and violation of the traffic rules such as over speeding, changing traffic lanes and jumping red lights etc.

The technological steps implemented by Dubai police were demonstrated in the International Security Event at the Dubai World Trade Exhibition Centre that concluded on Jan 19.
