BMW has retained the top position in luxury car sales in 2015 by selling over 1.9 million units with an annual sales growth of 5.2 percent. Mercedes Benz was a very close second with 1.87 million units and an annual sales jump of 13 percent.
While BMW still dominates the luxury car sales in 2015, the company’s growth rate this year was the slowest ever since 2009. Mercedes Benz lost the crown to BMW in 2005 and its phenomenal growth rate last year can be attributed to a stronger line-up and greater demand in the Chinese market.
Mercedes Benz was able to beat Audi to claim the second place for the first time since 2010. Audi also had its slowest year since 2009 though the company reported a 3.6 percent growth rate (1.8 million cars) in 2015. If the trend continues, it is expected that Mercedes-Benz will overtake BMW in luxury car sales this year.
