Hyundai has beaten its competitors in the EV race by revealing the specs for the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq which has already been unveiled in Korea, but will be introduced in the US and Europe later this year. The car will be available in 3 powertrains: electric, plug-in gasoline/electric hybrid (HEV), and gasoline/electric hybrid. The first to roll out of the assembly lines will be the Ioniq Hybrid.
The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq is powered by a 1.6 GDI four-cylinder Kappa engine and a 32kW electric motor. The combined output is 103.6 kW and 265 Nm of torque. Coupled with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, the vehicle offers good fuel economy. The structural enhancements include the use of Advanced High Strength Steel for 53% of the vehicle’s body resulting in weight reduction and tensile strength.
Built to provide an entertaining drive along with excellent performance, the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq comes with an array of connectivity features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The cockpit contains a 7-inch TFT information cluster catering to both entertainment and performance displays.
The safety features have not been ignored – the 2017 Hyundai Ioniq features Autonomous Emergency Brake, Lane Keeping Assist System / Lane Departure Warning System, and a Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Also included are 7 airbags out of which one is a knee-airbag for the driver.
