The German automaker demonstrates that going electric is not the only alternative for sustainable transport by revealing the Audi H-tron Quattro concept. Resembling the e-tron Quattro unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show (with 496 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque), the h-tron is powered by hydrogen.
The Audi h-tron Quattro concept promises extended range and fast refueling. The crossover’s fuel-cell provides 110 kW of power while another 100 kW power would come from an additional battery. Power conduits to front and rear mounted electric motors that provide a 230 kW combined which back up the claims to an outstanding performance. The h-tron boasts a 0-62 mph sprint in less than 7 seconds, and could provide 600km range and fuel refilling in less than 4 minutes.
Audi’s previous experience with fuel-cell powered concepts includes the A7 h-tron Quattro which utilised a 300-cell power unit coupled with a turbocharger and an 8.8 kWh lithium ion battery. The all wheel drive car was capable of 300 hp.
It is expected that the next Q8 will incorporate the H-tron Quattro concept, though an electric version will also be available.
