Tesla Motors 2015 sales amounted to 50,580 vehicles, almost all of which were Model S. This is a huge increase compared to 2014 when the company sold 18,750 vehicles. Tesla’s fourth quarter sales (17,400 vehicles) were up 75% from the same period last year and even exceeded the company’s own quarterly record by 48%.

Out of the 50,580 Tesla vehicles sold in 2015, the Model X accounts for only 208 although the company had plans of at least 4000 deliveries. Model X production was delayed for a number of reasons including the monopost center row seats and the stylish falcon wing doors. The long awaited and hugely hyped Model X has had mixed reviews due to its mileage on full charge which is lower than the Model S and smaller storage space.

Tesla will have to work extra hard to meet all the Model X reservation orders and go ahead with the Model 3 which it plans to reveal in March this year. Then again, the company has always met expectations, albeit at the last minute. Moreover, the Model S continues to delight and was the bestselling car in November 2015 with over 5,000 global deliveries.

Tesla Motors 2015 sales may have just barely crossed the finish line but with production of the Model X finally on track 2016 should go much smoother.
