The Toyota new map generating system will be presented by the automaker at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) next year, which will become a crucial part of the future autonomous vehicles.
Self-driving cars are equipped with a high tech system of cameras and sensors, but they also need an advanced and accurate mapping system so that they know where they are going. Toyota has just brought the right thing to the table.
To achieve this, the Toyota production cars featuring cameras and GPS will travel around different areas picking up data such as road layouts, traffic signs, speed limit, etc. on every street and then will transfer the information to the data centres. This will be done using standard cars rather than building dedicated vehicles to make it cost effective.
The automaker is currently working with Stanford and MIT University to develop an AI system which will be used in the autonomous vehicles. More details regarding the Toyota new map generating system will be unveiled at 2016 CES.
