The new generation Subaru WRX STI is expected to be launched in 2017 and rumours have it that it will be equipped with a turbo-charged hybrid powertrain.

Reportedly, the Subaru WRX STI will be based on the new Subaru Global Platform (SGP), so we can expect it to look somewhat similar to the Impreza concept, which was revealed by the automaker in LA a few days back. The STI will sport an aggressive persona featuring carbon fibre components and large air ducts and fenders.

But the most important thing which the Motoring.au source told us is that the Subaru WRX STI will boast a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine along with an electric motor. This new powertrain will not only offer a spectacular performance, but also impressive fuel efficiency. The power rating can go up to 322 horsepower as compared to the standard 305 horsepower generated by the current model.

There is no official confirmation of these facts yet, so we would have to wait a little more before getting all excited.
