Thanks to the Hyundai hydrogen powered technology, the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell vehicle has just claimed its fame for setting the Land Speed Record. Leaving aside Hydrogen powered speedsters, the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell vehicle is the only SUV which has gone into production and 100 units have been delivered to customers since June 2014.

The record run took place 1.6 km of dry/damp lake bed in California on November 11, 2015 and this green-SUV managed to hit an astounding figure of 152.2 km/hr on the speedometer making it a new land speed record for this hydrogen powered crossover. A video of this event has also surfaced where the vehicle zooms through the dry land leaving only a trail of dust and water drops.

Hyundai Product PR Manager Derek Joyce confirmed, “speed was achieved and confirmed by both GPS Vbox and Radar”. The front wheel drive is equipped with a fuel cell stack attached to an electric motor which produces a horsepower of 134. It can be fuelled in less than 5 minutes and has around 430 km of driving range.

The Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell vehicle is available in South California on a 3 years lease and with a down payment of $2,999 the installments come to be $499 per month.
