The Frankfurt Auto Show 2015 witnessed the launch of 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider – the successor of Ferrari 458. The automobile is fitted with a new twin turbocharged 3.9 Litre V8 mid-mounted engine providing horsepower of 661 and 560 pound-feet of torque. The automobile accelerates from 0-62 mph in just 3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 200 mph in 8.7 seconds.
The 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider is said to be more environment friendly since it specifically lowers the dangerous emissions as per the officials at Ferrari. As environmentalists are looking forward to limit fossil fuel burning, this comes in as a welcoming change. The car has been designed with an aerodynamic under-body and a blown spoiler which integrate vortex generators. This helps to reduce drag to a greater extent resulting in fuel efficiency. The roof rig can be raised or retracted in a matter of 14 seconds only, even on the move.
Though the car provides plush interior with soft leather finishes, the design cues make it speedy and beautiful. The sporty dual side intake provides air to engine box and manages tail air pressure. The louvered vents enable hot air extraction out of the engine at high speeds. On the back-side, we have a smooth rear spoiler which is elegantly styled and helps soothing the turbulence. The chassis contains 11 different types of aluminium alloys to enhance torsional toughness by 20%.
On the whole, Ferrari seems to be in excellent form yet again. You have to be very vigilant while driving the 2016 Ferrari 488 Spider, since it can accelerate to a very high speed and might not be recommended for luxury cruising. However, the engineers have restricted torque at lower gears to provide liner acceleration, meaning the more you push the pedal, the faster it will go. The trademark engine sound will surely rush the adrenaline levels of the driver. The 488 Spider will carry a price tag of around $275,000.
