Dubai Police are preparing new safety procedures to handle electric hybrid vehicle accidents, which are in line with the government’s strategy to promote the use of such vehicles in order to reduce carbon emissions in the region.
A new federal monitoring system is expected to be issued by the end of this year to coordinate with DEWA plans to install 100 charging stations next month in malls, airports and high-density residential areas. This follows the recommendations from The International Conference for Future Vehicles 215, which include development of an infrastructure for electric/hybrid vehicles, e.g. recharging stations.
The number of hybrid taxis in the region is expected to go up to 200 by the end of the year. While Dubai Police already have safety equipment in place, they are developing refresher courses for their rescue teams so that they are able to recognise an electric hybrid vehicle and use proper safety procedures to shut it down. The training will also include what procedures to undertake based on the location of the accident impact (front, back or side).
