Producer and starring character of the Fast and Furious movie series Vin Diesel (aka Dominic Toretto) revealed in an interview with Variety that plans for prequels and spinoffs are already in the works. Diesel was not forthcoming about which characters would get their own sequels but Dwayne Johnson (DSS agent Luke Hobbs) has been known to express an interest in going solo.
Given the extreme popularity of the franchise, it is likely to be considered by Universal as a worthwhile project. The logic for the prequels and spinoffs lies in the attention paid to building up of the characters in the first seven films – each characters has been given enough background details and attention to have their own fan clubs.
The remaining three films of the series might be old news, but Diesel and Universal assure fans that they will be in for a surprise. The validity of this claim can be ascertained by the change in director – F. Gary Gray is joining the Fast and Furious team for its 8th sequel.
