We saw Kia revealing the Niro urban crossover concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show and now the Korean automaker has unveiled teaser images of its latest 2017 Kia Niro hybrid model, which is not the same as was shown two years back.
In terms of design, the all-new 2017 Kia Niro hybrid stands somewhere between the Sorento and the Sportage. The front fascia comprises of a tiger nose grille and sophisticated LED headlamps. At the back, it has a rear spoiler for improved aerodynamics and aggressive tail lamps. Surprisingly, it has the same wheelbase length (106 inches) as the 2016 Toyota Prius, but the overall height is short.
This compact crossover will be equipped with a 1.6-litre Kappa engine paired to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission along with a 1.56-kWh battery pack. The combined gasoline engine and hybrid drivetrain will produce 152 horsepower and 108 pound-feet of torque. The official fuel economy ratings have not been announced, but the automaker says that it will achieve a combined 50 MPG rating.
Being a modern SUV, it definitely boasts some latest technological equipment such as wireless charging for your iPhone. The Apple CarPlay is already available on the new Kia Optima, but we will have to wait a little longer to see if the Niro will benefit from it too.
The 2017 Kia Niro hybrid will hit the dealerships sometime in the next year.
