At 6 Pm, the doors were closed and a day filled with CEO’s from some of the biggest automakers presenting their new extraordinary cars came to an end. If you missed the live show due to the 5 hour difference between UAE and Japan then don’t worry, we are going to provide you with the key details of the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show.
Mazda
It was surely an important day for the Japanese automakers. The day started with Mazda president showcasing the new RX-Vision coupe that features a brilliant Skyactiv-R rotary engine.
Nissan
Following the RX-Vision was the IDS Concept by Nissan, which is an autonomous car encompassing a pretty impressive and futuristic exterior styling. One of the best things about the IDS concept is that when you switch from auto driving mode to manual, the iPad provided inside transforms into a steering wheel. Pretty cool, right!
Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi also unveiled its concept electric SUV, eX, which gives us a hint what the automaker has in its store for us in the future. Incorporating a bold persona and an electric powertrain, this SUV can travel 248 miles on a single charge. The eX will most likely go on sale by 2020.
Sabaru
Subaru came up with two new unique concept cars, Impreza and Viziv crossover.
Suzuki
Suzuki has also made its mark by unveiling a hatchback, the Mighty Deck and a micro bus concept dubbed as Air Triser.
Toyota
Let’s not forget about Toyota’s contribution at the show. The world’s number one automaker has revealed a number of concept, electric and normal passenger cars. The first one is the pioneer in hybrid powertrain; the new and improved Prius renders a stunning exterior design and the first Toyota vehicle to use Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). The automaker has also unveiled its G Sports series cars which including Aqua, Prius, Vitz, Mark X and Harrier, all of which feature a hybrid powertrain. Along with these, Toyota also introduced some extraordinary concept cars with ground breaking new technologies. The Toyota C-HR concept is a distinctively styled crossover incorporating a hybrid powertrain and TNGA. The Toyota S-FR concept is a light weight sports car with main focus on quick acceleration and responsiveness. Employing a FR layout with the engine installed on the front midship location combined with intelligent weight distribution, enables the S-FR to deliver a phenomenal performance. The Toyota FC-V Plus concept, using a hydrogen powered powertrain was also revealed, giving an idea that the automaker is considering using the hydrogen fuel cells as a future energy source for their cars. And lastly, the Toyota Kikai concept was just displayed to show admiration to the beauty of machinery.
Honda
Honda should not be left behind, as the automaker exhibited its most important car, Clarity sedan, which is equipped with hydrogen fuel cell technology. The automaker has confirmed that the Clarity Fuel Cell will go on sale in Japan next year and is capable to cover over 400 miles on a single tank.
Mercedes Benz
The German automaker is not behind when it comes to revealing concept cars. Mercedes presented its autonomous concept car called the “Vision Tokyo” targeting the Generation Z. The Vision Tokyo renders a retro and funky exterior style featuring a large front grille, sharp LED head lamps and a huge set of wheels along with illuminated side skirts. On the inside, we have a spacious cabin and a holographic display.
Other notable cars introduced at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show include Daihatsu D-Base Kei car, Lexus LSluxury sedan with a V8 hybrid engine, Mitsubishi Emirai autonomous car, Mini Cabriolet, Nissan Teatro with a digital interior and Subaru Ignis.
