Toyota Environmental Action Plan 6th version, which will come into play between April 2016 and March 2021, is part of the company’s long term aim to contribute to global environmental sustainability. The company has developed a set of goals to be achieved over the next 35 years which relate to environmental issues such as climate change, water shortages and resource depletion.
The Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050 comprises six challenges across three areas: ever-better cars, ever-better manufacturing, and enriching lives of communities. As part of the ever-better cars goal the company plans to completely eliminate all CO2 emissions from vehicles. This will include emissions during material sourcing and manufacturing.
The ever-better manufacturing challenge refers to cutting down CO2 emissions at all manufacturing facilities to zero over the next 35 years. This will be achieved by diversifying fuels sources (using hydrogen where possible) and developing alternative energy source projects like wind-power and renewable electricity plants.
As part of the enriching lives of communities, Toyota Environmental action plan focuses on vehicle lifecycle by establishing recycling plants and initiating global conservation projects to encourage community involvement in reducing wastage related to vehicle use and subsequent abandonment.
