It’s not just VW – other automakers are also in a quandary regarding high emissions tests in real world scenarios. A recent article from the Guardian has listed Mercedes Benz, Honda, Mazda and Mitsubishi as having higher emissions than allowed by EU regulations.
The news has been brought to light by an on-the-road testing programme conducted by Emissions Analytics in which both Euro 5 and Euro 6 models were tested. Led by Oxford graduate Nick Molden, Founder and CEO, Emissions Analytics conducts tests and analysis for automotive businesses to help increase fuel efficiency.
In a recent tweet, the company claimed that “All but 4 Euro 6 cars we’ve tested produce too much NOx in real driving conditions and the average is 4 times over”.
The results of the study are a further proof that the Euro tests for high emissions are singularly deficient in reflecting real world scenarios and car manufacturers will continue to be in a dilemma failing revised guidelines or more comprehensive tests. The EU’s official lab test is called NEDC and has failed to cut down on air pollution as expected.
