IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) has awarded a Top Safety Pick+ award for the small SUV category to the 2016 Fiat 500X, launched in the second quarter of this year.
The Fiat 500X achieved “good” in all 5 IIHS simulation tests including side impact, moderate frontal impact, small front impact, roof crush from rollover and rear collision which qualified it for the Top Safety Pick+ Award. The Forward Collision Warning-Plus system featured in the compact CUV helped it achieve this award.
Timothy Kuniskis, Head of Passenger car Brands, FCA North America said, “With the all-new 500X, we help make it possible not only for customers to arrive safely at their destinations, but to do so with style”.
The 2016 Fiat 500X design incorporates high-strength steel engineered to withhold against crash energy and help to minimise internal damage to the cabin in the event of a collision. The Forward Collision Warning-Plus uses camera and radar technologies which activate the safety system, sending audio and visual warnings to the driver. In case the driver is non-responsive, the system acts autonomously to slow the vehicle before impact. The vehicle also features more than 70 driver-assist technologies including LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus and Hill-Start Assist.
FCA has once again this year been named in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World, achieving a high score of 88/100 against an industry average of 60/100, for innovation management, climate change strategy, occupational health and safety, labor practices, human rights and stakeholder engagement.
