The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded 2016 Volvo XC90 a Top Safety Pick+ rating in the mid size luxury SUV category.
Volvo has been toting the luxury SUV as the “world’s cleanest and most powerful SUV”. The seven-seater boasts a fuel economy of 25 mpg on the highway and a cargo capacity of 85.7 cubic feet.
The 2016 Volvo XC90 is powered by Volvo’s City Safety collision avoidance technology which helps drivers to avoid collisions. An innovative “braking in intersection” system enables the car to brake automatically if senses an oncoming car at an intersection. Also featured are other collision avoidance systems including Road Sign Information, Lane Departure Warning and Electronic Stability Control.
The IIHS ratings are based on two safety cornerstones: crashworthiness (occupant protection in a crash) and crash avoidance and mitigation. To earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must meet the Top Safety Pick criteria (which include good ratings in moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints) as well as demonstrate superior frontal crash prevention systems.
