Developers at Ford have created a smart watch app which will allow owners of Ford electric and plug-in hybrid cars to check their vehicle’s battery status and perform a lot other functions.
The app, called MyFord, can be downloaded from Apple App Store and Google Play. It offers users the convenience of checking several vehicle status indicators directly from their watch instead of the Smartphone. MyFord features include battery charge level, giving estimate of how many miles a driver can travel at the current battery level, remote locking and unlocking, and a location module which provides walking or driving directions to where the car is parked. The Ford’s smart watch app has been designed to work with both round and rectangular watch designs.
Arguably one of the most beneficial features is a Google Maps module with zoom capability that can guide drivers to the nearest charging station. Also featured is an efficiency gauge which shows users a summary of the last trip and allows them to keep an eye on their driving score including braking and driving efficiency. In line with the electric vehicles “green” image, the display shows more green leaves to correspond with greater driving efficiency.
The app could only manage Ford C-Max Energi, Ford Focus Electric, and Ford Fusion Energi at the moment.
