The latest hype in automobile industry is the possibility of driverless car gracing the roads in the near future, but did anyone heard of driverless Limousine. Since conception of the idea many automakers have jumped on the self driven cars bandwagon. Not to be left behind and to capitalise on the idea, the CEO of Mercedes, Dieter Zetsche, stated his company is probing possibilities of incorporating this technology. In an interview given to Reuters, Zetsche proclaimed that Mercedes has plans to offer a fleet of driverless limousines. The service will cater to customers who don’t wish to go through the hassle of owning a vehicle but desire premium luxury transportation.
Zetsche claimed that the driverless limousine service would be a natural extension of parent company Daimler’s auto sharing service, Car2go. The driverless fleet will be made available on subscription or hourly basis to their affluent clientele. Mercedes already competes with arch rival BMW, which owns a similar auto sharing service called DriveNow. Another competitor is Uber which is also a stakeholder in the self driven car arena.
Mercedes has already carried out a successful trial of driverless S Class, which traversed the distance between Mannheim and Pforzheim.
