Nissan has announced the 2016 Nissan Leaf and it may be the most fuel economical electric vehicle you can buy. Although the new Leaf has not received any major exterior styling updates, but the Japanese automaker has made other significant upgrades which will make this EV hatchback standout from its competitors.
The key improvement in the new 2016 Nissan Leaf is of course the 30 kWh battery, which gives a 27 percent increase in range compared to 24 kWh battery. Nissan claims that this new battery will allow the Leaf to travel 107 miles on a single charge. The base S trim has the same old 24 kWh battery as the previous model, however the upper SV or SL trims, will feature the upgraded 30 kWh battery pack.
In addition, the automaker has also installed a new and improved entertainment system. The base model will have a 5 inch display with Bluetooth technology, while the Leaf SV and Leaf SL versions will render a 7-inch multi-touch display with voice command. The Nissan Connect will come standard in all the Leaf trims.
The new Leaf retains the same 80-kW AC synchronous motor that generates 107 horsepower and 187 pound-feet of torque. The base model carries a price tag of $28,060, while the SV and SL variants are priced at $35,050, $37,640 respectively.
