After stunning the world with the One:1 , Koenigsegg might be going after a new world record with an all-new Koenigsegg Track-only Hypercar.
The current line-up of track only hypercars is pretty small including Ferrari FXX-K, McLaren P1GTR and Aston Martin Vulcan leaving plenty of room for Koenigsegg to nudge in with another winner. The CEO Christian von Koenigsegg confirmed this in a blog interview on the official Koenigsegg website saying, “That is something we are thinking about. But it wouldn’t be a One:1 because that was optimized as a road car with incredible track performance. This would be a track-only car, which therefore has a different philosophy.”
Koenigsegg has made a name for itself by being the first hypercar manufacturer to lean towards green technology. The One:1, released in 2014, runs on biofuel, race fuel, or normal gasoline. The car gets its exceptional and unusual name from its amazing 1:1 hp-to-kg ratio. The Koenigsegg Agera R set a Guinness World Record in 2011 with a lap time of 21.19 seconds for the 0-300-0 km/h run. It seems the Koenigsegg One:1 is likely to beat this and in fact has already done so in a practice run where it shaved off 3.24 seconds from the record time.
Given the brand’s history, the new Koenigsegg track-only hypercar promises to thrill car racing enthusiasts the world over and is surely going to be worth the wait.
