Gerry Judah’s Inspiration 911 was unveiled at the Porsche Museum, Zuffenhausen, on Sep 2 to pay tribute to the birthplace of Porsche.
The British artist’s fame arose from the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed where he delighted fans with spectacular sculptures of 911. The automaker was impressed enough to want a second monument of the Porsche 911 at the heart of the company’s origins.
Inspiration 911 features 3 pillars soaring up to a height of 24 metres, with a different generation Porsche mounted on each. The 3 chosen models were an F-series from 1970, a G-series from 1981 and the latest generation 911.The façade of the Porsche Museum provided an impressive background to classic Porsche brand sculpture where the audience was entertained with a fascinating lightshow display.
Zuffenhausen, an urban district of the German city Stuttgart, is where the first Porsche 911 rolled out of the assembly line to begin an era of dominance in the motoring world. It is also the home of Porsche Museum, right next to the Porsche manufacturing facility, which attracts Porsche fans from around the world. The Museum displays over 80 vehicles and visitors can choose to combine the trip with a factory visit.
Matthias Müller, CEO of Porsche AG, recognised the importance of Stuttgart to the company in his address at the event, “the sculpture that we present today is more than a work of art. It is also a symbol for our company’s close ties with Stuttgart.”
