Tesla now boasts 502 supercharger locations with 2,832 superchargers spanning 4 continents. Arguably, the fastest growing network in the world, Tesla supercharger locations offer convenience to Model S drivers.
As the American pioneer in electric cars, Tesla is making huge efforts and stays on top of the game. The extensive Tesla supercharger network allows Model S owners to drive from coast to coast in the US with a 20 minute stop to re-charge. While the superchargers are currently free of cost and Tesla has promised to keep it that way, consumers are concerned that with the Model 3 set to be launched soon things may change.
Furthermore, Tesla recently requested some Model S owners to cut down on supercharger usage. Given the company’s low cash position, this was taken by many owners as a sign that their electric cars may no longer be as economical as predicted. The supercharger network is one of the company’s strongest USPs and the reason why Tesla holds the highest market share in the US. The company still has a long way to go in the global market, where Nissan Leaf is the market leader.
Interestingly, electronic cars account for only 0.8 percent of the market share for passenger cars in the US. Sales are expected to grow in the next quarter, but only if the supercharger network is able to cope with the increasing demands. Tesla is fighting the expansion battle by partnering with other charger sites with Tesla Wall Connectors available.
