While the Tesla Motors is looking forward to release its new roadster in 2019, a wealthy billionaire in China, JiaYueting, is planning to develop his own electric car company which he says will compete head to head with Tesla Motors. This idea to develop a company to rival Tesla was first proposed by JiaYueting a year back.
Yueting is the same person behind the famous Chinese entertainment company, LeTV that is known as the Chinese version of Netflix. Now to build his dream EV, Yueting divested $1.2 billion worth of stock to fund its production.
Moreover, 600 employees from various companies including Tesla, BMW and General Motors have been hired too, out of which 200 will be working in the US under the leadership of Tony Nie, who is the former Lotus Engineering executive. Regarding the employees, Tony explained that they already have a lot of experience and will help to speed up the production of the car.
The name of the electric car will be Le Supercar (Le mean Happy in Mandarin). Not much is known about the powertrain yet, but we can expect the Le Supercar EV to feature a highly technologically enhanced interior with a large touch screen and an infotainment system. Let’s see if Yueting will be able to fulfil his dream of becoming the most innovative company beating Tesla.
