Audi e-Tron Quattro Concept is all set to rock the audience at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The sports utility vehicle will enter production in 2018, featuring state of the art battery that will enable it to go 500 kilometres, while the superior aerodynamics will reduce air resistance.
The sporty crossover will be Audi’s first ever all-electric deployment in the compact SUV segment, and its ‘Aerosthetics’ concept will be fine tuned to match the requirements of modern EVs. The aerodynamic profile of the body plays a great role in improving car’s mileage and Audi’s pioneer electric SUV will be optimised to benefit from this phenomenon. The concept will be based on the second generation modular longitudinal platform, which will smarten its size without compromising the cargo carrying capacity of the vehicle.
The huge lithium-ion battery will be positioned amidst the axles, underneath the passenger compartment in order to balance the gravitational pull with equal distribution among the axles. The batteries will conduct the power to three electric motors; one for the front wheels and two for the rear one.
Although, the all-electric powertrain in crossovers is a new experiment for the automaker, it is not unfamiliar with the technology, as Audi R8 e-tron sports car has already won much acclaim around the globe.
