If you thought Google is the only tech giant working on fully autonomous vehicles, you may be wrong; the rival company Apple is also planning on developing its own autonomous cars. Yes, we have heard many rumours about Apple’s autonomous cars, but there wasn’t any document proving that.
So recently, one of the engineers working at Apple, Frank Fearon told The Guardian that the company has its eyes on GoMentum Station which is located outside San Francisco and was previously an army base. This site will be used to test their autonomous vehicles. Even the owner of GoMentum Station has confirmed that Apple has been taking interest in this test site. This facility was also used by Mercedes-Benz and Honda to test their autonomous cars.
Apple has not announced anything officially regarding this project, Titan, but few evidences such as the fact that the company has been hiring workers from famous automotive companies suggest that this project will soon turn into reality.
