The first generation Chevrolet Volt which was introduced in 2010 offered an impressive 38-mile range with its hybrid powertrain and became the top selling plug-in electric sedan in the US. It was even recognised globally as the best plug-in hybrid car. Now the automaker has announced the mileage of the second generation Volt and it is far more superior to its predecessor.
The 18.4-kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery housed in 2016 Chevy will allow it to cover a distance of 53 miles solely on electric power before the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine comes into action. Even the regular 1.5L engine will deliver an impressive fuel economy of 42 mpg. According to General Motors, people who own the first generation Volt can easily cover 80 percent of their journey on electric power and with Volt 2016, it will shoot up to 90 percent.
The new 2016 Volt will be priced at $33,995, which makes it $1,000 cheaper than the current model available in the market.
