Mercedes-AMG has been hesitant to make a switch to hybrid up till now due to fear of customer acceptance. However, Mercedes extends a range of hybrid models like S400, E400, while the new S-Class plug-in hybrid has also been introduced to the automaker’s hybrid family. In the new turn of events, AMG is revising its strategy and the electric-petrol bond might expand to its high-end automobiles.

The head of research and development at Mercedes, Thomas Weber told reporters that there has been environmental concerns regarding the current productions, which led them into planning more hybrids, releasing less carbon dioxide. Following the trend, Mercedes will introduce 10 new hybrid cars by 2017, while 2020 is anticipated to fully complete this conversion.

This will be a massive turnover for Mercedes-AMG, however, the technology itself will not be hard to pursue, as the parent company, Mercedes-Benz, has already been doing good in the hybrid arena. The most difficult part is convincing the customers to yield to the change, as they are in for more power and the hybrid powertrain might receive some discontent.
