Toyota has plans to incorporate turbocharging in the next generation Camry, to meet the demand of forced induction units in the market. As a result of this evolution, the current 3.5 litre six will be replaced by a 2.0 litre turbocharged 4 cylinder engine.
Turbos are becoming very popular in the world, as we see pickups, sedans, coupes and supercars all following up this trend. However, the Japanese automaker stood its ground persistently against the change, until now. According to Automotive News, Toyota has finally yielded to the trend, forwarding its one of the most prestigious sedans as a future turbo candidate.
The company is not new to forced induction, as performance cars like Supra and MR2 have already incorporated turbocharge, but it will be the first time for a mainstream car to undergo changes on such epic proportion. Reports also reveal that the basic model might also get some tune ups like Atkinson cycle and CVT transmission.
