General Motors has opened up a new testing facility for the assessment of its safety technologies. The venue labelled as Active Safety Test Area spanning about 52-acres and costs $14M, is located in Detroit.
The upcoming safety technologies by GM will encompass City Speed Front Automatic Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Rear Camera Mirror, Night Vision and Curb View Camera. Apart from that, the automaker is also introducing smart car over-ride system, that will actively take control over the car in life threatening situations.
The testing area also contains a 16-acre dynamic ground to conduct company’s autonomous car drive tests, by creating active simulations that mirror city and highway scenarios with cars, dummy pedestrians, posts, walls, tunnel, parking lot, 6 lanes and a 90-degree road intersection.
General Motors envisages 22 different safety technologies to be incorporated in its 2016 production units as well as 2017 models like Cadillac CTS.
