To celebrate 25th anniversary of Americans with Disability Act, Ford Motor Company along with BraunAbility has designed a new vehicle, MXV, which is in fact the first SUV for disabled people on wheelchairs.

The vehicle modified to create MXV was Ford Explorer. It features sliding doors allowing the passenger to easily enter and exit the vehicle, a powered floor ramp and removable driver and passenger seats. The MXV’s height is 56 inch, which is very spacious since the middle row seats have been removed.

The powertrain remains same as regular Ford Explorer with 3.5-litre V6 engine generating 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, but the all-wheel drive will not be available. The first unit built will be gifted to a United States Marine who got paralyzed when a sniper bullet hit him during war in Iraq in 2006.

It will arrive at BraunAbility dealerships later this year.
