Drivers of tomorrow might be prepared for self-driving cars, but the motorists of today aren’t ready for them yet. The University of Michigan conducted a survey regarding the concern of drivers about self-driving cars. It seems they are not yet ready to relinquish control of their driving task.
It is true that more than 90 percent of the accidents are caused by human mistakes, therefore the industry leaders are determined to push down the path of autonomous driving. They believe that with the help of self-driving cars they can reduce the number of road fatalities. Still, according to the survey, 68.5 percent of people were not in favour of the idea of driving completely self-driving cars. Nonetheless, this ratio was slightly higher when compared with the same survey conducted in 2014.
Despite the fact that 92 percent people in the survey said they wanted a steering wheel, accelerator and brakes, Google has introduced the next generation autonomous prototype that completely abolishes the driver. Google believes their AI technology has the ability to perform all driving tasks.
