Qatar’s annual car parade location has been changed from Corniche to Katara. The initiative was taken because the former location is crawled by the law enforcement authorities, and the newbies participating in the event are often charged for not wearing seat belts, having no driver license and stopping the car for pictures and similar issues.
During the holy month of Ramadan, car enthusiasts roll out their enviable rides to meet in a traditional Qatari parade, which was previously held in seaside corniche. Every evening hundreds of cars gather, inducing attention of traffic police, who have to ensure that random participants do not break the road rules.
On the other hand, the event has also been a subject of criticism by Qatari leaders and members of society, irrelative to popularity of the car show. According to Mohammed Al Dosari, a local social media figure, the decision was taken to avoid Police fines and other issues cropping up as a result of so many cars grouping up in one place.
The partying car event continues to be questioned, as the new location has blocked entry to the Katara Cultural Village’s main access road.
