It’s a wrap. The reign of Porsche 918 Spyder, one of the company’s fastest cars amidst a long line of equally fast supercars, has finally come to an end. The last model left the factory in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen as per the schedule, according to a statement released by the company.
Marked as the spiritual successor to the Carrera GT, the 918 Spyder did indeed pack a punch with a 4.6-litre V8 and two electric motors offering a total of 887 horsepower. The car can go from 0 to 60mph (96.5km/h) in just 2.5 seconds, which is probably why the car holds the record for the fastest lap of a street-legal car on production tires.
Not much has been revealed on what’s next in store from Porsche, however it is expected to be a response to the McLaren 650S and the Ferrari 488 GTB, as can be deduced by the company’s latest teaser image of its next generation sports car. What is certain however, is that things are going to get really interesting.
