Shelby American has introduced the 2015 Super Snake, a Hellcat-fighting muscle car based on the Ford Mustang GT.Developed with input from Ford Performance, Shelby’s latest Super Snake is powered by an evolution of the GT’s 5.0-liter V8 engine that uses a beefy supercharger to develop over 750 horsepower in its most powerful configuration. The eight-cylinder is bolted to a six-speed manual transmission, but the Super Snake can be ordered with a six-speed automatic gearbox at an extra cost for the first time ever.
Performance specifications have not been published. However, Shelby point out the extra power is complemented by Ford Performance-sourced suspension components, a Borla exhaust system with twin oval outlets and six-piston brake calipers. 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped by Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires help keep the Snake pointed in the right direction.
Visually, the Super Snake stands out from a stock Mustang GT thanks to model-specific striping, a carbon fiber hood with a forced-air scoop and a bigger spoiler out back. The cockpit has been spruced up with special emblems, upgraded upholstery and a three-gauge instrument cluster.
Just 300 examples of the Shelby Super Snake will be built in Las Vegas, Nevada, this year. Each one will cost $49,995 excluding the cost of a donor Mustang GT, though Shelby has not revealed how much the 750-horsepower model stickers for.
