The Japanese automaker, Honda Motor Co. has decided to stop the production of CNG fitted and hybrid variants of the Civic. The plug-in hybrid version of Honda Accord has been temporarily discontinued too, says the official at Honda. John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda stated that the hybrid and CNG fitted Civics’ demand is not very impressive, hence the company had to discontinue it.

To fill the gap, the automaker will bring something new to the table. Mendel announced that Honda will introduce new and enhanced technologies in its upcoming new generation cars. One of these technologies include a car which will run on hydrogen fuel cell and will probably arrive in the market in 2016. The automaker also plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid and an electric vehicle that may hit the roads in 2018.

Mendel believes despite the less number of hydrogen fuelling stations available in the US, the market for the next-generation fuel cell vehicles will be large.
