What looks like a simple Dodge Grand Caravan is actually Apple’s next big leap into the world of autonomous driving. Codenamed ‘Project Titan’, the new Apple iCar, as it is now widely known, was seen going for a test drive in the heart of the American automotive industry – Detroit. The car was covered in sensors that ran along its roof ultimately connecting to the car’s rear wheels.

Reports of Apple venturing towards the making of driverless cars had been making rounds before Steve Jobs’ death. However, speculation regarding the move quickly became rife at the Code Conference after Apple’s Operation Chief Jeff Williams, in response to a question related to the various industries the company plans on getting into, merely stated, ‘The car is the ultimate mobile device.’

Details are sketchy on whether Apple will come up with a self-driving car altogether or with the technology to be used on other cars. Still, Apple has somewhat made an impact in the foray of automotive technology, specifically with its latest Apple Car Play infotainment system.
