The Jeep Renegade and the Fiat 500X are now back in the market and are available at the dealerships, after the issue regarding the identification number has been solved by the automaker. According to the company, the problem was not in the models itself, rather it was a software bug at the FCA, and hence the identification number on both the vehicles was not recognised by some computer systems. This prevented the two crossovers from getting registered in some areas. For this reason, a large number of Renegades and 500Xs were stationed at a track near Toledo, Ohio.
An FCA correspondent acknowledged the situation and further revealed that about 20 Renegades were already delivered to the customers before the problem was recognised.
On May 19th, FIAT CEO, Sergio Marchionne made a statement regarding the Renegade and the Fiat 500X, that he is having a tough engineering day, however it was not known at that time it was due to this vehicle identification matter.
Both, the Fiat 500X and the Renegade are built at the same factory in Italy and share the same platform. Moreover, they are also equipped with a similar nine-speed automatic transmission system.
