On April 15th, the official Cadillac website revealed some information regarding the luxurious 2016 ELR coupe, reporting that the latest ELR will feature some major upgrades, including a reduced price tag and 25 percent more power output.
Talking about the technical details, the 2016 ELR can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds, which is 1.5 seconds faster than the 2014 model. Moreover the amount of torque produced by the previous model was 295 pound while the new 2016 ELR will produce 373 pound of torque. The engine is pretty much the same that is two electric units combined with a 1.4-litre inline-four engine. So, how did the automaker manage to increase the power output by 25 percent?
Rather than changing the power units, the automaker has upgraded them. The electric motor features more enhanced electronic components that increase the current flow, thereby generating more torque and acceleration. Moreover, the clutches, bearings and gears have been upgraded too.
While most of the companies spend a large amount of money to create a new engine, the intelligent engineers at Cadillac have used smart techniques to upgrade the previous engine and saved a great deal of investment. The new 2016 ELR will be $10,000 cheaper too with a price tag of around $64,995.
