After an impressive run in the Emirates Desert Challenge (EDC) and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, the second round of this year’s FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies, Emirati Driver Ahmad Al-Fahim is now eyeing the upcoming Dakar Rally as a way completing this season’s series of triumphs.
Attaining second and eighth place at the EDC and the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge respectively, Al-Fahim attributes his successes to a good service team combined with good mechanics and quality-performing driving machine. According to him, the previous tournaments served as a great practice for the upcoming Dakar Rally, for which he and his team plan to meet with a few sponsors to decide what to do next.
An annual rally raid organised by the Amaury Sports Organisation, the Dakar Rally is an off-road race where the terrain is much tougher, which includes crossing dunes, mud, camel grass, rock, etc. The vehicles used for these tournaments are specifically designed to endure the pressures and tensions caused by off-road tracks.
